The Center for Applied Social Analysis & Education (CASAE) is a social science research center located on the campus of Humboldt State University in Arcata, CA. CASAE was founded in 1991 to support and undertake applied research and educational programs. CASAE offers a vital link between the resources of the university and the needs of the community.

CASAE’s mission is to encourage collaborative organizational learning and community empowerment through participatory research and collaboration.

Research activities conducted by CASAE are designed to generate knowledge on a particular issue and facilitate a practical outcome identified by the client. CASAE’s activities have resulted in the completion of numerous evaluations and reports in areas such as affordable housing, residential learning communities, neighborhood emergency service teams, drug rehabilitation programs for adult correctional inmates, delinquency prevention and intervention programs, attitude surveys related to high-profile court cases, and management programs for home health agencies.

CASAE uses a collaborative, participatory research and evaluation style designed to maximize client participation in the research process.

In addition to applied social research and evaluation services, CASAE maintains a strong commitment to education through the planning, development, and coordination of a variety of educational programming including seminars, workshops and trainings.
