Steven J. Steinberg, Ph.D.

Steve is an Associate Professor in HSU's Natural Resource Planning Program with emphasis in GIS and Remote Sensing. He came to HSU in 1998 after completing his PhD at the University of Minnesota. He has spent over a decade in applied research and teaching Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and remote sensing. Steve is Director of HSU Institute for Spatial Analysis, which provides geospatial analysis and mapping support for all aspects of CCRP's work. In 2004, he was selected as a Fulbright Scholar and received an appointment as Distinguished Chair in Remote Sensing at the Centre for Scientific Computing, Simon Fraser University in Vancouver British Columbia. In 2006 he co-authored "GIS for the Social Sciences: Investigating Space and Place" which is already in wide use at Universities across the country and is currently co-authoring a second book to be released 2008. Steve has researched and presented extensively on the applications of Spatial Analysis Technologies for modeling and visualization in both human and natural environment.

Beth Shipley, MPH

Joining CCRP in 2009, Beth has a master’s degree in public health policy and administration from the University of California at Berkeley and a BA in psychology from Rutgers University. She has over fifteen years of policy related research experience and brings perspective and experience with local issues gained from her service with the Humboldt County Department of Health and Human Services. Beth has extensive knowledge of local strengths, needs, and the community-based health and human service network. Her interests include access to care, livable communities, healthy food and sustainable food production systems, physical activity, and mental health.

Chris Aberson, Ph.D.

Chris is an Associate Professor of Psychology at HSU. He assists CCRP with statistical analysis and evaluation work. Chris completed his B.A. at California State University, Northridge and his M.A. and Ph.D. at the Claremont Graduate University. He came to Humboldt State in 2000 and teaches courses in Introductory, Intermediate, and Advanced Statistics. His research interests include prejudice, racism, and affirmative action as well as interactive tutorials for teaching core statistical concepts. He is currently writing a text on statistical power analysis that is scheduled for publication in 2009.

Martin Love, MBA

Martin is the CEO of the Humboldt Del Norte IPA, Foundation for Medical Care.

He was the project lead for the Del Norte County Health Care Provider Recruiting and Retention Plan conducted by CCRP in 2006. Martin has more than 28 years of management and administrative experience in health care with experience both in hospitals as the CEO of General Hospital in Eureka and as the CEO of a large physician independent practice association.

He is active on the Boards of Hospice of Humboldt, Mobile Medical Office (serving the homeless, undocumented and uninsured in Humboldt) and the Northern California Community Blood Bank.

Erick Eschker, Ph.D.

Erick has been an economics professor at HSU since 1998. He is the Director of the Index of Economic Activity for Humboldt County, a monthly source of data on the economic health of county. He conducted an assessment of the Economic Impact of Health Care on the County of Del Norte for the Del Norte County Health Care Provider Recruiting and Retention Plan conducted by CCRP in 2006. Erick was a research economist for the American Medical Association. He also spent one year at the Center for Population Economics at the University of Chicago, which focuses on studying the long run history of elderly health and the impact of technology on healthcare costs and delivery. Professor Eschker was awarded an HSU President McCrone Promising Faculty Scholars Award and has published in journals including Applied Economics and Journal of Comparative Policy Analysis and has given papers at the Social Science History Association Annual Meetings and the Federal Reserve Bank of Chicago. He earned his Ph.D. from the University of California, Davis and his B.A. in economics from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.
