Awards were given to thirty-nine K-12 teachers and ten university/college professors from the United States and Canada. The DTA Awards recognize outstanding contributions to geographic education. Colleagues submitted nominations for the awards, and awardees were chosen by judging panels at the elementary, middle/junior high, senior high or post secondary level.
The National Council for Education recently awarded Stephen Cunha from Humboldt State University in Arcata, California, and Mike Murphy from Gettysburg Elementary in Clovis, California, its annual Distinguished Achievement Award for 2001.
Distinguished Teaching Achievement Award
NCGE President, Robert S. Bednarz, Texas A&M University, College Station, Texas, will present plaques to recipients at the awards banquet during the NcGE annual meeting August 1-4, 2001 in Vancouver, British Columbia. Awardees receive free registration to the conference and a one-year membership to NCGE.
The NCGE was chartered in1915 to promote geographic education at all levels of instruction. It currently has 4,200 members worldwide.
