We want humans to assist at all levels from performance to costumes to set design to music! We encourage not only students, but community members to join us. Completely student created and run, the Humboldt Circus was organized four years ago to spread the gospel of circus to the masses. Ultimately, we develop everything as an ensemble. We hope that you have ideas and/or skills that you want to share that we can incorporate. We are both an open admission circus skills class and a professional level performing troupe, commited to the idea that the world of circus leads to increased coordination, higher self-esteem, longer life, open chakras and clearer skin. All levels of interest are encouraged from "Don't know Diddly-squat" to "Likes to clown" to "Freakin' Amazin'." Musicians of all kinds are welcome, the more unusual, the better. As circus has notably unique behind-the-scenes technical needs, we welcome technical theater enthusiasts as well! With a "hands-on" approach, we explore all styles and aspects of the expansive circus arts: Big Top, Burlesque (our favorite), Vaudeville, Street Performing, Festival Pageants and more. Our members have a wide variety of skills that we teach and share: juggling, contact juggling, poi spinning, acrobatics, clowning, trapeze, tumbling, balancing, unstable platforms, slack rope-walking, stilt-walking, hula-hooping, staff twirling, lasso roping, yo-yoing, walking on walking globes, stage combat, glass walking, glass eating, paddidling, tricks with fire, beds of nails, mastering ceremonies, illusions, dancing, stripping, twizzling, sideshow tricks of all kinds and more! Every aspect of production is fair game for learning if that is your bag, baby: lighting, sound, musical composition and performance, costume design and construction, make-up artistry, prop design and construction, set design and construction, publicity (stunts and the more conventional variety), leading, following the leader, playing tag (and spin-the-bottle), navel-lint picking, saving the world and whatever you think might be fun and interesting! Learn as much or as little as you desire!
