Research Interests

I conduct research in two areas, social psychology and teaching of statistics.  My social psychology research focuses on intergroup relations (e.g., prejudice and discrimination). Currently, I am examining attitudes towards affirmative action, minority favoring biases, hate crime endorsement, and the effectiveness of web-based tutorials for the teaching of statistics. Much of my work involves student collaborators (noted in italics). Some articles have links to download or are accessible through on-line sources, others can be requested. See presentations page for more research.

Current Projects (Papers Under Review/In Preparation)

Ongoing work creating web-based tutorials for teaching core statistical concepts.  Currently, we are developing a tutorial to teach regression analysis concepts with a focus on variance partitioning.

Our lab group developed a measure of implicit hate crime endorsement. We are currently examining the reliability and validity of the measure through a series of studies.

We are conducting a series of studies examining situations wherein minority targets receive overly favorable evaluations.

Aberson, C. L., & Ettlin, T. Are African Americans evaluated more favorably than Whites? Meta analytic evidence of context effects. In preparation.

A series of studies examine support and opposition to affirmative action, the factor structure of attitudes towards affirmative action, and reactions to specific affirmative action policy applications.  Papers include:

Aberson, C. L. Influences of policy characteristics on attitudes towards affirmative action. In preparation.

This research examines whether contact with members of minority groups (e.g., gay men, African-Americans) influences "unconscious" biases such as aversive racism and implicit attitudes.
