Common Participation Pool Login Problems and their Solutions

Please try all of the solutions below BEFORE you contact the participation pool administrator for assistance.

Please remember, your HSU email account and your Participation Pool account are separate accounts. They both should have the same username but they can have different passwords.

Problem: I signed up for an account but I never got an email with my password

Did you use your HSU email address? Every semester several students sign up using their student id number.

Solution 1: Create an account using your HSU email address.

see below for other solutions.

Problem: (When you try to log in to the Pool system you get this message) System Message: Login failed. Did you forget your password?

This means either you used the wrong password or do not have an account on the system.

Solution 1: Create an account on the system. Your account will not be created for you. If this is your first time using the system you must create an account. Click the link on the lower left of the login page titled New User? Request an Account Here.

Solution 2: Request your password from the system: Click the link titled Lost your password? Click here to retrieve it.

Problem: I don't use my HSU email account so I can't retrieve my password.

If you are registered as a student you have an HSU email account, even if you have never used it or have not used it for years.

Solution 1: Change your "preferred email address" in the HSU system. This page details how you can do this http://www.humboldt.edu/~its/techguides/email/emailoptions.shtml . Once you make this change, all new email will go to your preferred email address.

Solution 2: Log in to the HSU email system and get your password for your HSU Mail Account. (note: this password is different than your participation pool password – they are separate accounts). This page allows you to change your password if you have forgotten it https://www.humboldt.edu:8891/banserv/chgaxepass.pl (note: this page is titled new account activation but it works for changing your password too). Once in the system you can retrieve your password. (But see below, if you haven't used the system your disk quota may be full).

Problem: The system is not sending me my password.

If you addressed the issues above, you may need to delete some of your old email (in the HSU Email System). Every account has a certain amount of space allocated. If you exceed this space you cannot receive email (this is very common).

Solution: Check your account's disk space. Go to https://www.humboldt.edu:8891/~its/cgi-bin/quota.pl . If your account has little space remaining, log in to your HSU email account. You will need to delete some old email. The most common problem here is that the system does not automatically remove email from your 'Deleted Mail' folder. You have to enter this folder and delete those messages yourself. More information on this is available at https://webmail.humboldt.edu/src/login.php
