Common Management Systems
Welcome, to the home page of Humboldt State University's CMS Project Office!
What is CMS?
The CMS Project is an initiative that involves all 23 campuses and the implementation of PeopleSoft Human Resources, Financials, and Campus Solutions (Student Administration) software.
In 1998 the Chancellor’s Office implemented the Common Management Systems (CMS) effort to consolidate the management systems of the CSU system and to identify one software package, which would effectively support its Human Resources, Financial and Student systems. Several software solutions were reviewed, which resulted in the selection of PeopleSoft for Human Resources, Financials and Student systems.
Central development efforts have resulted in delivery of a baseline set of modifications of core functionality which will be used by each of the campuses. HSU is currently live with Human Resources and Financials. Our implementation dates for Student run from January 2007 through October 2008.
The CMS Project Office is dedicated to maximizing the value of our investment in this software; that is, it should:
- Make jobs easier
- Help employees become more productive
- Enhance access to data
- Contribute to the University's mission and strategic objectives
Your ideas, suggestions, and general feedback are both welcomed and encouraged. If you have ideas for improving any of the PeopleSoft or related systems, please contact the CMS Project Office at extension 5080. Thanks for visiting our web page!
What else is CMS doing to add value to our campus?
Implementing CRM - Customer (Student) Relationship Management from Oracle/PeopleSoft, which is a software package that aims to improve recruiting processes, and eventually retention as well, by contributing to improved customer service to our students. To learn more about this project, please click here or contact the CMS Project Interim Director, Melinda Haynes Swank at ext. 5080. As most are aware already, new student enrollment and retention is a primary driver for maintaining HSU funding from the Chancellor's Office.
Fostering organizational efficiency through industry standard resource and project management techniques. Based upon best practices in both private and public sector, as well as standards established by the Project Management Institute (PMI) the CMS Office provides organizational methodologies, templates, resource kits, and training that facilitate detailed project and operational task & resource planning and management. The hard work in planning and organization improves likelihood of success, employee moral, and facilitates resource planning both short and long term. For information on the tools and resources available (which are designed for technology related departments and projects, however applicable to many others), please contact the CMS Interim Director, Melinda Haynes Swank at ext. 5080.
