Nursing students with a new mom & baby.With your Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing, you will be prepared to enter one of the most important and rapidly changing professions in the 21st century. As a Humboldt student, you will gain the self-reliance, problem-solving skills and creativity required to excel in a variety of settings and roles - from rural clinic to urban hospital - as clinician, client advocate, or community organizer, and as a member or leader of a team.

The demand for qualified nurses is growing, and the HSU Department of Nursing offers a fully accredited baccalaureate nursing program to prepare students for this challenging and rewarding field. Career possibilities include, but are not limited to, Nursing students in the lab.adult health, child health, maternity health, mental health, occupational health, critical care, and community health. HSU nursing majors also have opportunities for advancement to graduate education, leading to advanced practice roles as a clinical specialist, nurse anesthetist, nurse midwife, nurse practitioner, educator, researcher or administrator.

The Department of Nursing is committed to client-centered, holistic care, and is certified by the Holistic Nurses Association. The Nursing faculty, while conducting innovative research and teaching, have maintained close bonds with clinical practice by working in such areas as hospitals, clinics, and Hospice nursing. Faculty also serve the community in various consulting roles. Some faculty do international work and several are ANA certified in their respective areas of expertise.

Nursing student taking blood pressure.Students have clinical experiences in numerous health settings in the community, including hospitals, the Department of Public Health, ambulatory health centers, schools, and home health agencies. Practice experiences include maternity, pediatrics, adult, community, gerontological, and mental health nursing.

The variety of clinical experiences helps students to develop independence and autonomy action, and an ability to theory-based practice.
