Dave Pearson

Dave Pearson is the Information Technology Consultant (ITC) in the College of Professional Studies at Humboldt State University.  CPS faculty and staff rely on Dave for assistance with a wide variety of technology-related needs.  Specifically, Dave is responsible for providing support for College faculty and staff.  He can be contacted at david.pearson@humboldt.edu or by telephone at 826-5874. 

Direct User Support:

  • Provides desktop system support by recommending, installing and maintaining server and desktop computer operating systems, protocols, software and hardware.
  • Responds to inquiries regarding all aspects of desktop systems, networks and College computing labs.
  • Administers the College technology replacement plan (“refresh cycle”), and optimizes re-organization of existing technology.
  • Selects and purchases appropriate systems, coordinating vendor warranty repairs and replacements.
  • Helps solve systems problems.
  • Trains faculty and staff in use of desktop systems, networks, computing labs and software.

Technical Assistance

  • Maintains network connectivity for College computer systems.
  • Helps troubleshoot solutions with hardware and networking systems, distinguishing between malfunctions and user errors.
  • Maintains computer spare parts inventory.
  • Maintains documentation on software installations consistent with license purchases and computer system repairs or trouble calls.
  • Replaces failed computer components.
  • Builds computers from components.
  • Performs preventative software maintenance, including virus detection software and software patches.
  • Develops and implements plans for data protection and disaster recovery.
  • Maintains inventory of software licenses, enforcing compliance.

Team Work

  • Coordinates information technology support services with other campus units.
  • Researches web-based resources for solutions, writing programs and scripts allowing co-existence and management of servers and desktop systems.
  • Creates innovative and thorough solutions to nonstandard applications and systems.
  • Shares ideas and information with faculty, staff, and administrators.
  • Manages and implements large projects.
  • Participates on College and University committees relating to policy and guidelines for campus server management, desktop system development and security.
