Portfolio Eligibility
Updated: 07/07/04

To be eligible for portfolio submission, a student must be earning a course grade of C- or better. Instructors should gather/compile sufficient information prior to submission to determine student eligibility. Of course, care must be exercised in sharing this estimated grade with students: students who are assured that they are earning an A in the course and then who fail portfolio are often confused and, frequently, quite energetic in voicing their dissatisfaction. Consequently, many instructors prefer to share eligibility (or lack of eligibility) information with students, not estimated grades.

Students earning a course grade of D+ or lower are not eligible for final portfolio submission. These students must receive an F in English 100I/100 (or a NC in English 200) and repeat the course. (Students may now repeat a course without a petition. While each attempt at the course will appear on a transcript, the cumulative GPA will reflect only the most recent grade.)

The English 100I/100 requirement can be fulfilled at another institution; however, the grade the student receives at another institution cannot replace or remove the grade received at HSU.
