Scoring Your Own Portfolios
Updated: 07/08/04

Collect your students' portfolios by the designated due date—usually the Wednesday prior to the portfolio reading. Please do not accept student portfolios after the posted deadline. It's the law.

Act as first reader for your students' portfolios:

  • Pencil your reader number on the upper right-hand corner of the folder.
  • Pencil your reader number on the Scoring Guide's "First Reader" line.
  • Use the magic pen provided to note your score.

Deliver your scored portfolios to the collection box in the English Department office by the designated deadline—usually midnight on the Thursday prior to the portfolio reading.

  • Arrange portfolios in numerical order within batches.
  • Complete a Batch Control Sheet for each section you teach. Complete all sections of the Batch Control Sheet except for score columns. List only those portfolios included in the batch.
  • Note the total number of portfolios included in that batch at the bottom of the Batch Control Sheet; rubber band each batch.
  • Place your batch(es) in the boxes located in the English Department Office (behind the counter, to the left as you face Jim's desk); do not bring them directly to the portfolio reading.
