4-H TRAIL
A Therapeutic Equestrian Program

for

People with Special Needs

Directed by Dr. Douglas Jager

4-H TRAIL is an all-volunteer organization dedicated to providing therapeutic and recreational equestrian experiences for riders with special needs Each year we serve approximately 150 kids and clients, operate more than 100 days and provide about 5,000 hours of volunteer and riding activities at our Trinidad stables.

Hippotherapy helps improve balance, coordination and self-esteem by stretching, massaging, stimulating and challenging riders with special needs. Our facilities include wheelchair accessible mount/dismount ramps, a fenced riding arena and approximately 3 miles of trail that wind through forest meadow and coastline.

4-H TRAIL has no paid employees. We rely on volunteer help to operate the program and to help with horse care and ranch maintenance. We receive no governmental funding and rely on community contributions and fund raising activities to cover our expenses, which are approximately $20,000 per year.

Each month the Directors of 4-H TRAIL struggle to provide the physical and financial resources required to maintain the program, care for ten horses and to meet the ever increasing demand for program services. The 4-H TRAIL horses, riders and volunteers need your physical and/or financial support. For more information please email Doug or contact him at 707-677-0604 or 677-3918.
