| Fomitopsis pinicola; 'red-bank conk'; when young sporocarps have a reddish to orange band (the one to the right has the entire surface this color); typically has a slightly yellowish, porose hymenophore; the transition between the pileal margin and the hymenophore is gradual and not as abrupt in Heterobasidion annosum; causes a light brown cubical rot of down, dead conifers; in our area this species is quite prevalent in forests below about 3000 feet. |
