Task Forces

 

Student Access, Retention and Recruitment Task Force

This task force's work is focused on investigating best practices for offering students access to education here at HSU, for creating an atmosphere of support and inclusiveness so we retain students through graduation and for developing models that aid successful recruitment of students from underrepresented groups. This task force offers consultation to and works with campus programs and departments that want to explore ways to increase the success and retention of our underrepresented students.

The following goals fall within the purview of this task force:

  • Diversity Action Plan Goal 2 - Increase the number of California high school graduates of color who apply, are accepted, and enroll at Humboldt State University.
  • Diversity Action Plan Goal 3 - Increase the proportion of students of color in the student population to more closely reflect California's demographics. Close the gap in educational achievement by bringing retention and graduation rates for students of color in line with those of the student body as a whole.
  • Diversity Action Plan Goal 7 - Establishment/increase of student scholarship funds available for underrepresented students.
  • International Resources Committee Goal 2 - Enhance International student presence

Diversity Training and Accountability Task Force

This task force's work focuses on investigating and helping the enhancement of professional development opportunities for staff and faculty at HSU. This group offers consultation to and works with programs and departments that are exploring ways to create or improve diversity/professional training programs.

The following goals fall within the purview of this task force:

  • Diversity Action Plan Goal 6 - Improve accountability throughout all units and departments at HSU in relation to diversity.
  • Diversity Action Plan Goal 8 - Create programs for diversity training for staff, faculty, and administrators, including development of a Diversity Institute

Inclusive Excellence in Curriculum Transformation Task Force

This task force's work focuses on investigating and helping the University improve and enhance the curriculum so that our students are offered an academic experience that is rich in respect to diverse and multicultural perspectives.

The following goals fall within the purview of this task force:

  • Diversity Action Plan Goal 5 - Foster institutional environments and course development that enhance learning and a respect for racial and ethnic diversity.
  • International Resources Committee Goal 4 - Internationalize Curricula
  • International Resources Committee Goal 5 - Strengthen development of study abroad programs

Cultural Transformation Task Force

This task force's work focuses on investigating and helping the University cultivate a learning atmosphere that is inclusive of diverse and multicultural perspectives. This group is available for consultation regarding departmental or programmatic changes that have to do with the campus' social climate.

The following are goals that fall within the purview of this task force:

  • Diversity Action Plan Goal 1 - Create an equitable institutional and social climate at HSU and the surrounding community that welcomes diverse students, staff and faculty, and fosters success for all members of Humboldt's learning community.
  • International Resources Committee Goal 1 - Coordinate and centralize activities related to global and international learning
  • International Resources Committee Goal 6 - Internationalize campus culture

Diversifying Faculty and Staff Task Force

This task force's work focuses on investigating and helping the University improve recruitment and retention of faculty and staff from underrepresented backgrounds. This group offers to give consultation and work with departments and programs that are working on increasing the number of faculty or staff of underrepresented groups in their units and that are working to establish best practices in retaining these faculty and staff.

The following are goals that fall within the purview of the task force:

  • Diversity Action Plan Goal 4 - Increase the number of faculty, academic staff, classified staff and administrators of color so that they are represented in the HSU workforce in proportion to their current availability in relevant job pools.
  • International Resources Committee Goal 3 - Enhance internationalization of faculty and staff
