Total Personal Income is rising in California and in Oregon. Income is at least keeping up with inflation. Out of the Northern Californian Counties, Humboldt has the highest income. In general, California Incomes are higher than Oregon’s. To compare States, it is necessary to use per capita income instead of Total Personal Income.

Total personal income reflects dollars individuals receive on a yearly basis. Higher incomes are generally a positive indicator for human capital, since it indicates a level of skill valued in the marketplace. Personal income can also be a positive indicator for social capital, since more money is available for public services and community infrastructure.
