ECON 309: The economics of a sustainable society

Humboldt County Wealth Indicators Project 2001

Economics 309, Spring 2001, Prof. Hackett

Indicators List and Guidelines:

See the course syllabus for deadlines for the first draft and the final draft.

For each indicator you select (one employment indicator, one social or natural capital indicator), prepare at least one Excel diagram in color, fully labelled. Prepare a Word file with the name of the indicator, your name, the data source link, and the narrative elements how are we doing? and why is it important? described in the syllabus. Use 12 point Times Roman font. Include the Excel diagram(s) in the Word file.

NOTE: The format for the Humboldt County Wealth Indicators is the same as the indicators from spring 2000, EXCEPT that your narrative for the how are we doing? and why is it important? elements should be substantially more detailed, providing a more in-depth analysis of Humboldt County. Use this template as a guide.

For your employment indicator you should objectively discuss the implications of the data you report for employment opportunities and a sustainable local economy. For your social or natural capital indicator you should objectively explain in your narrative whether the indicator increases or decreases social or natural capital, and what implications it has for sustainability.

Please only use government or other non-copyrighted data sources.
