Dr. Robert Gearheart

Dr. Gearheart received a Ph.D. from the University of Oklahoma in 1970. Robert teaches courses in environmental impact assessment, hazardous waste management and water quality management at Humboldt State University. A registered Civil Engineer, his research interests include water and wastewater treatment and constructed wetland wastewater treatment. Robert is also involved with a number of public and private sector agencies providing support for water supply facilities in developing countries, such as Indonesia, Kenya, Ghana, and Sierra Leone.

Dr. Gearheart has been involved with the development of Arcata's Integrated Wetland and Wastewater Treeatmant facilty and the Arcata Marsh. He continues to be active in ongoing research as the Arcata Marsh grows and matures. The Arcata Marsh is a sewage treatment plant/ recreation area/wildlife sanctuary/ aquaculture project . It is clearly one of the better examples of humans working in cooperation with the environment.
