The Wildlife Sactuary at the
Arcata Marsh includes, yes you guessed it bird watching. At any given time of year, the
Arcata Marsh offers the oppertunity to view over 160 diferent species of birds. Included
in this wide range of species are many migratory birds, ducks and waterfowl that use the
marsh as an important rest and relaxation spot. Birds that are on the fly, migrate from as
far North as Alaska. Because the Arcata Marsh has such a wide population of birds, the
Redwood Regional Audobon Society offers bird watching tours every Saturday morning beging
at 8:30.
When the Arcata Marsh was
constructed it also included in the design a body of water that is directly conected to
Humboldt Bay. That area of water is called Klopp lake. Klopp lake offers people who visit
the marsh the oppotunety to fish.
Waterfront Days. People say here that they "Flush with pride", celebrated in conjuction with Waterfront Days in an annual festival held here in Arcata. See "Flush with Pride"for more details.
Marsh Art. The Interpretive Center is trying to organize a collection of
artwork and literature with ties to the marsh. Such ties could be from inspiration,
setting, actual use of materials found at marsh, etc. The Interpretive Center is host to
several other purposes and recreational activities. See F.O.A.M.
(Friends of the Arcata Marsh) for more details.
