The Humboldt Film Fest is the oldest student-run film festival in the world, showcasing innovative cinema since 1967, the Summer of Love. We celebrate films that express fresh ideas and test cinematic boundaries. Films that show heart and purpose hold a greater value to this festival than attributes related to production value.

WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR:

Send us:

  • Narrative, Experimental, Documentary, Animation, and everything inbetween.
  • Works must be under 30 minutes and must have been created within the last 5 years.

SUBMISSION GUIDELINES:

Preview Formats: DVD (all regions accepted), VHS (NTSC, PAL, SECAM, PAL-M and PAL-N). A self-addressed stamped envelope should be included for the return of the VHS tape/ DVD. If SASE is not included, these will be kept for the Festival archives, to be used for educational purposes on the campus of Humboldt State University and to be used for promotional purposes of the Festival. Prescreening VHS tapes / DVD's are kept for award-winning films, to be added to our archives.

Finalists must be prepared to vouch for the copyright ownership of their films, including the rights to use all music therein. Filmmakers assume full responsibility for the content of their submitted films. If your film is selected, the final screening DVD must be in our office by April 10, 2010. Award winners will be selected by three guest judges and the co-directors during the festival. The award winners will be announced and the main category winners will be re-screened on the final screening night (Best of the Fest), as well as at promotional events for the festival.

We will provide awards comparable in value to the awards given last year. Please see our website for updated information as award packages are confirmed.
