Local Filmmakers Night, 7 PM

IN THE DARK (Matt St. Charles, Rick St. Charles)

Stan Bland is a dorky 30ish private eye who lives with his mother. But in the parallel universe of his imagination, he's ultracool film noir detective Dan Blade. When a classy dame approaches him to find out what her 15-year-old son is doing after school, Stan/Dan takes on the case...both of them.

LOSE YOUR HEAD (Ishan Vernallis)

"300 tribespeople gathered in the northern Thai city of Chiang Mai yesterday to put a curse on Mr. Bush and other leaders who are perceived to exploit the poor. A shaman 'captured' the spirits of the leaders and encased them in a pot that was sunk in a river." - The Guardian, 0ctober 2003. Lose Your Head is a 16mm caliber filmo reversal film shot on summer solstice in the Cascadian hills of Arcata, California. Music: Abuelita Bolitas.

LAST LOVE ON EARTH (Evan Wrye)

Gilbert has a disease collection, and he likes chemicals too. He loved a woman he could not afford.

VORTEX (Jon Olsen)

For many people, Humboldt County is a paradise. For Vance, it is a dystopian Hell. And the more he thinks about escaping Humboldt, the more doomed he seems to be stuck there.

THE PHANTOM HUNTER (Andrew Mart, Andrea Lanctot)

HSU students in the Green Campus program created this "Crocodile Hunter" spoof in an effort to educate the public about phantom loads, which use electricity even when turned off. The Green Campus is led by student interns who design and implement energy efficiency projects and educational outreach on campus.

RECALLING DEMOCRACY: Measure F in Humboldt County, CA (Tom Voorhees)

Is corporate money trashing democracy? Can ordinary people affect elections? A look at the attempted recall of District Attorney Paul Gallegos in 2004.

BY THE BEAUTIFUL SEA (A. lbabel)

Kris is imprisoned by a forgotten past. Brice is wedded to a predicted future. They come together in an act of erotic healing to set themselves free.

BAY DREDGE (Cynthia Hooper)

This experimental short examines the somewhat bizarre spectacle of an imposing effluent pipe that spewed its contents along one of our local beaches in winter of 2007. This eleven mile-long pipe extended—vacuum cleaner-like—from a dredging barge at the Eureka marina, across the marshes, and over the sand dunes to Samoa Beach. The varied and distinctive contents of the bottom of Humboldt bay were thus dramatically revealed to all who dared to venture near this powerful motif to economic expansion.

THE ROAD TO ADOPTION (Alex Costello)

John and Laura wait in an adoption agency office for a decision from the adoption agent: whether or not they will be given a child to adopt. Mark, the agent, denies them. The very nutty John and Laura aren't even married, just a couple of friends who want to love something. Mark eventually gives them this opportunity in an unexpected way...

GIVE IT AWAY (Genny St. Charles)

A short music video involving a band and a cramped elevator.
