CMS performance problems

Tuesday, May 31st, 2005

CMS Central is currently reporting performance problems, apparently in network performance affecting all databases. They will keep us informed of status.

Chart of accounts training

Tuesday, May 31st, 2005

A reminder that there will be a training on Chart of Accounts tomorrow morning, Wed June 1, from 9:00-11:00 a.m. in HGH 225. Note the time: for the months of June and July, we are moving our trainings to Wednesday mornings in a continuing effort to accommodate different user schedules.

No registration is necessary.

For more information on classes and schedules, see the Training links on Fiscal’s PS Finance Web page (http://www.humboldt.edu/~fiscal/topics/psfin/psfin.html).

Navigation training Wed

Tuesday, May 24th, 2005

A reminder that there will be a PS Finance Navigation training this Wednesday afternoon, May 25, 1:00-3:00, in the CMS Lab (GH 211c). The training is primarily targeted to new users of PS Finance, but existing users may find it a useful refresher. Pre-registration is required only for users who are getting access to PS Finance for the first time; all others may drop in without registering. Please note that this training is held in the CMS Lab, not the HGH 225 classroom where we are now conducting our other trainings.

For more information, see the links to Training on our PS Finance main Web page (http://www.humboldt.edu/~fiscal/topics/psfin/psfin.html).

Please spread the word to any staff in your area who are not current users but would like access.

April 2005 closed

Friday, May 20th, 2005

Effective at the end of the day yesterday, the accounting month of April 2005 (FY 2004, period 10) is closed in PS Finance. We do not intend to post any further entries to this period, and the data should be stable for reporting purposes.

Chart of accounts on Web

Tuesday, May 17th, 2005

We have updated the chart of accounts listings on our Fiscal Web pages, at http://www.humboldt.edu/~fiscal/topics/psfin/coa.html, as we’re aware that many of you find this offline version convenient to reference.

The lists themselves have been newly refreshed from the PS Finance production tables. In each case they now contain the entire set of available values, instead of the selection of values that was previously presented. The new design makes it easier to refresh these tables from production, and we plan to do that on a bi-weekly basis from now on.

The previously-presented Accounts table has been preserved under the tab called Hist[orical] Accounts, in order to keep useful FRS translation information available to you. This version will no longer be updated.

The look of the pages has been modified slightly to make it easier to access all pages, with tabs replacing the former buttons.

Please keep in mind that the most up-to-date source of information on chartfield values is not here but online in PS Finance, in the real-time HUM_AAA_GL_CHART queries in Query Viewer.

Training schedule — correction

Monday, May 16th, 2005

One correction to the previous announcement: the Navigation classes will continue to be held in the CMS Lab, GH 211c. These are intended to be hands-on trainings targeted to the new user. All other classes, including this week’s Analysis Tools, will be held in the larger HGH 225 classroom without user laptops.

The class schedule on the Fiscal Web has been updated to reflect this.

Just a reminder, too, that all classes are available to users on a drop-in basis, without registration or RSVP. Only users gaining access to PS Finance for the first time must register for the Navigation class, in order to get their new userids and permissions.

PS Finance training schedule

Monday, May 16th, 2005

A reminder that the Analysis Tools training will be offered this Wednesday May 18 1:00-3:00 in HGH 225. The use of pivot tables to analyze department financials is the major topic of this class.

Please note also that we have altered our schedule for the next class: on Wednesday May 25 we will be offering the Navigation class, not Chart of Accounts as originally planned. Chart of Accounts has been moved to the following week.

Training will continue to be offered through the end of July on our established cycle. Beginning June 1 and continuing through July, the time will change to Wednesday mornings 9:00-11:00. The room remains the same: HGH 225. As year-end approaches, we cannot be available for individual help over the phone, so please make the most of the continuing classes.

For the full updated schedule and a link to course descriptions, see http://www.humboldt.edu/~fiscal/topics/psfin/class_sched.html.

April payroll posted

Thursday, May 12th, 2005

April payroll has been posted in PS Finance. This includes one regular journal dated 4/30/05 (type=HRLABOR in the GL15), and one adjustment journal dated 4/15/05 (type=HRADJ in the GL15).

Note/recall that the HRADJ-type journal dated 4/01/05 contains the adjustments made in March, but that had to be posted to the beginning of April since March was closed by the time they came across.

CMS Brown Bag

Monday, May 9th, 2005

A reminder that a CMS Brown Bag session will be held tomorrow (Tue May 10) from 12:00-1:00 in Goodwin Forum.

This is the last scheduled Brown Bag forum. We would like to take this time to organize campus endusers into a more formal representative structure for ongoing communication. We propose that at a minimum, each of the major divisions (i.e., Academic Affairs, Student Affairs, Administrative Affairs, President direct reports) offer one person to represent them at our existing biweekly Thursday morning work councils for PS Finance. This will create a guaranteed channel for communication in both directions, and a meaningful arena for getting work done. The Thursday meeting is by invitation, not drop-in, but we’ll be happy to extend invitations to a manageable number of agreed-upon representatives; and we hope to establish these people tomorrow, in time for Thursday’s meeting.

This agenda item is our primary concern. Any remaining time can be open to user issues as usual.

PS training venue

Monday, May 9th, 2005

This is to confirm that PS Finance training sessions through the end of May will take place in HGH 225, Wednesday afternoons (May 11, 18, 25) from 1:00-3:00. Last Wednesday’s Account Management class was our first training at this time/place; for anyone who didn’t attend last week, please note the new location and time.

The next session, May 11, is the HR payroll/recruit workforce class. For more information on upcoming classes, see the course descriptions and schedules on our Fiscal Web pages (links available at http://www.humboldt.edu/~fiscal/topics/psfin/psfin.html).
