Undergraduate Advising Guide

Each HSU Fisheries Biology undergraduate is assigned an academic advisor who is responsible for helping students navigate the requirement structure of the Dept. of Fisheries Biology. The Fisheries Biology Program offers two options: (a) Freshwater and (b) Marine. Both options share a set of core requirements in biology, chemistry, physics or geology, and mathematics, and essential Fisheries Biology classes (e.g., Ichthyology, Fishery Techniques, Fishery Management) that must be taken by students in both options. Individual options require students to specialize in specific areas of Fisheries Biology, but additional "approved electives" allow students the flexibility to study special areas of interest.

Working with your undergraduate advisor, you will develop an individually tailored "contract" or list of courses that constitutes your approved undergraduate degree program. Below we provide example listings of a four year sequence of courses that you might expect to take at HSU if you were to major in Fisheries Biology and choose one of our two options.
