My greatest satisfaction as a forestry teacher has been to help students explore, discover, and investigate forests and woodlands. I have been teaching forestry for 30 years and have focused on dendrology, forest ecology, and fire ecology. These courses are field oriented and have provided considerable personal and professional fulfillment over the years.
While my primary focus has been teaching undergraduates, I have been fortunate to work with an accomplished group of graduate students. These students have mostly worked in the areas of vegetation classification and mapping, fire ecology, dendrology, and human impacts on forested ecosystems.
Outside of teaching, I enjoy spending time with my family, hiking, skiing, exploring new landscapes and cultures, and dabbling in photography.
