On October 2000, six women came together to discuss the possibility of establishing a Latina based sorority on the HSU campus. Noticing the lack of Latino representation on campus, these women formed the Interest Group of Gamma Alpha Omega Sorority and began meeting on a regualr basis.

On January 26, 2002, the interest group of Gamma Alpha Omega recieved word that they had been accepted as a local sorority on campus, on February 11th of the same year, they were recognized as an official Petitioning Group of Gamma Alpha Omega Sorority, Inc. by the national board, and on April 12, 2002 they were recognized as an offical Charter Colony of GAO! Only a couple months later, on October 25, 2002 they became the PI Chapter of Gamma Alpha Omega Sorority Inc.
