The 1906 San Andreas fault rupture extended from Santa Cruz to Humboldt County
Almost every chimney in the Eel River Valley was toppled over
The largest aftershock (M 6.3) was located in Humboldt County
Liquefaction was much more extensive in 1906 than any of our more recent earthquakes centered on the North Coast
Orick TsunamiReady Community
This year, the RCTWG is helping the community of Orick, California become TsunamiReady. Tsunami hazard maps for the Orick Valley have been developed and evacuation routes planned. Educational materials on tsunami hazard and community preparedness are being developed.
Update of Living on Shaky Ground: How to Survive Earthquakes and Tsunamis on the North Coast. During the next several months, the RCTWG will be revising Living on Shaky Ground. The target date for the new publication is April 2006 the 100 th year anniversary of the 1906 earthquake. Printing of this publication will be supported by funding from the California Earthquake Authority.
