About Commencement
This handbook answers commonly asked questions about Humboldt State's Commencement by graduates, their families and friends. Please read it carefully.
Commencement Times: Saturday, May 17, 2008
- 8:30 a.m. - College of Natural Resources and Sciences
- Noon - College of Professional Studies
- 3:30 p.m. - College of Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences
Attendance at commencement is not required, but it is a wonderful way to celebrate the end of your educational journey and look forward to a new phase of your life. Family and friends are proud of your hard work and accomplishments.
No tickets are required to attend Commencement. The ceremony will be held in Redwood Bowl, rain or shine. Guests may sit on the grandstand bleachers or on chairs surrounding the graduates on the field. Seating is available on a first-come basis.
There is no special sign-up for commencement ceremonies. All undergraduate and graduate students who received a degree from Humboldt State during the summer ’07 or fall ’07 semesters, as well as those who have a graduation date on file at the Registrars Office and expect to be awarded a degree at the end of the spring ’08, summer ’08 or fall ’08 semesters are eligible to participate. Purchase your invitations, cap, gown and tassel from the HSU bookstore
Please plan accordingly as no food or drink is permitted on the field of the Redwood Bowl. You are encouraged to consume your snacks prior to entering the Bowl.
Children who are accustomed to sitting still without disturbing other guests are welcome to attend Commencement. Children may not participate with graduates in the ceremonies.
Guests with pets of any kind, including dogs, should make prior arrangements for their care as they are not allowed in Redwood Bowl.
Guests with disabilities or who have difficulty walking should view the Commencement map, which indicates parking and shuttle routes as well as walking routes to the Redwood Bowl commencement site.
*Candidates for graduation should assemble in the West Gym of Forbes Complex 30 minutes before their ceremony begins. Smoking and alcoholic beverages are not permitted in Forbes Complex or Redwood Bowl. No formal rehearsals will be held for the graduates, however, this site's section regarding the ceremony provides a "virtual rehearsal" of sorts. Participants should review it to gain a better sense of what to expect - and of what is expected of graduates.
Please print out these web pages and share with those you invite to Commencement. Unless circumstances warrant it, no other notice of instruction will be distributed.
