Poster Category
- A student may participate in the research, preparation, and production
of only one entry per year.
- A poster entry must be researched during the current contest year. This
begins following the National History Day competition in June. Any revising
or reusing of an entry from previous years is unethical, unacceptable, and
will result in automatic disqualification.
- Each source and illustrative material used in your Poster must be properly
credited or acknowledged n your annotated bibliography and/or footnotes.
Failure to do so will result in immediate disqualification.
- Each entry must have four (4) copies of a title page (title, name(s),
grade, and category (Poster)), a description of no more that 500 words,
and an annotated bibliography.
- There is a word limit of 250 words for student composed written material
on the posters. This does not apply to documents, oral history quotations,
artifacts with writing, or other illustration material that are an integral
part of the display. The title page, summary description, and bibliography
are not part of the word limit.
- For help with citations in any contest area, we recommend the use of Kate
L. Turabian, A Manual for Writers of Term Papers, Theses, and Dissertations,
or the style guide of the Modern Language Association of America (MLA).
Please keep in mind that all of your citations need to be in one form or
another. Please be consistent in your bibliographical form.
Size Requirements
Poster size is limited to 30" wide x 40" high. Foam board may be
used in the construction of the poster, but all contents on the poster must
lie flat without any protruding attachments. No 3-D projects will be accepted.
However, a collage format on the poster is acceptable.
Historical Websites Category
The Website presentation should reflect the student's ability to use computers
and related technology to communicate the significance of the topic in history.
The Website category allows students to demonstrate their knowledge and understanding
of computer technology as well as of a historical topic. You should use primary
materials such as photographs, film, video, audio tapes, and graphic presentations
to enhance your original composition.

must be cited properly in the bibliography or in the footnotes. Failure
to credit sources is plagiarism and will result in disqualification.

equipment used in the preparation of your website entry.
