Levels of Questioning - Example

A model for asking questions based on an interview focusing on the 1960's.
  1. Knowledge questions: List, record, define
    • Where did you go to high school?

    • Who played at the Altamont Rock Concert?

  2. Comprehension questions: Explain, discuss
    • What was high school like in the Sixties?

    • What did you do for fun when you were a teenager?

  3. Application questions: Apply, illustrate
    • What was a rock concert like in the Sixties?

  4. Analysis questions: Examine, compare, conclude, analyze
    • Compare the music of the Sixties to music of the Eighties?

    • How has the Hippie movement had a lasting impact in the 1980's?

  5. Synthesis questions: Create, speculate, compose
    • Do you think drugs destroy the idealism of the Hippie movement?

    • Why do you think San Francisco played such a big role in the Sixties in regard to the Hippies? Music? Protests?

  6. Evaluation questions: Judge, argue, justify
    • Would you classify the Sixties as either the best of times for the worst of times? Explain.

    • Do you think the Hippies were justified in "dropping out" of society?
