COUNCIL ACTION
SCHEDULED: Subject: Support for The 1.) WHEREAS, The Associated Students of Humboldt State University (HSU) have been entrusted to represent and fight in the best interests of our constituents, the7,773 students which make up our campus community; and 2.) WHEREAS, It is in the mission of the Associated Students to educate students on those issues that impact them, and advocate for the student perspective to the ‘appropriate parties,’ which include the university administration, the local community, and the State of California; and, 3.) WHEREAS, The California State Student Association has a long standing history of representing our students on statewide issues; and, 4.) WHEREAS,
State executive and legislative decisions
have cut the 5.) WHEREAS, The reduction to the CSU budget has the potential to drastically affect the affordability, accessibility, and quality of education for the CSU system as a whole, which includes students throughout the state of California, from continuing CSU students, transfer students from community colleges, high school graduates and all residents of California; and, 6.) WHEREAS, The CSU system produces high numbers of educated workers who contribute directly to the economic prosperity of California, the fifth largest economy in the world; and, 7.) WHEREAS,
The California State Student Association
is organizing a student march for higher education on 8.) WHEREAS, The purpose of the march is to ask the state legislators, the governor, and the public at large to invest in our future, and that of California’s and to motivate the afore mentioned, to more fully support the CSU system, hence California’s economic prosperity via higher education and provide the higher education systems, specifically the CSU system with an increase in funding or by re-examining the decision to decrease the CSU budget and, be it further, 9.) RESOLVED, The Associated Students of Humboldt State University fully support any and all efforts by the California State Student Association to advocate for students, and be it further: 10.) RESOLVED, The Associated Students of Humboldt State wish to provide the means for our students to be fully represented at the march; and be it finally: 11.) RESOLVED, This
resolution shall be sent to, but not limited to: CSU Chancellor Reed, all members
of the Board of Trustees; HSU President, Rollin Richmond; Vice President of Student Affairs, |
