Subject:        Resolution in Support of the Humboldt State University College Republicans and Veteran’s Club Action of the Observance of a Moment of Silence on September 11, 2008                                                                    

1.)                        WHEREAS,    The Associated Students of Humboldt State University (HSU) recognize that the attacks of September 11, 2001 affected all Americans and the world, not just the direct victims and their families; and

2.)                        WHEREAS,    The AS members and representatives acknowledge the tragedy that took place on this day and refuse to forget the sacrifice that was willingly and unwillingly made by the victims, their families, and rescue workers; and

3.)                      WHEREAS,     The Associated Students sympathize with and mourn for the victims; and

4.)                       WHEREAS,    The HSU College Republicans in conjunction with the Veterans Club have suggested a Moment of Silence to take place at exactly 9:11 AM on Thursday, September 11, 2008 by all willing students, faculty, and staff across campus, wherever they may be at that minute; and

5.)                       WHEREAS,     The Associated Student Government representatives feel that the above is an appropriate and tactful way to observe the 7^th anniversary of the 2001 attacks; and, therefore be it,

6.)                       RESOLVED,     The Associated Students of Humboldt State University fully support any and all efforts by the HSU College Republicans, Veterans Club, and any such clubs who so choose to support the action to observe a Moment of Silence, and be it further;

7.)                       RESOLVED,     The Associated Students of Humboldt State wish to provide the means for our students to be free to exercise their right to observe the occasion and be it further;

8.)                       RESOLVED,     The Humboldt State University Associated Students Government hereby support and promote the observance of 60 seconds of silence to take place at exactly 9:11 AM on Thursday, September 11, 2008 by all students, faculty, and staff across campus, wherever they happen to be at that moment, in recognition and remembrance of those who lost their lives in the 9/11 attacks on American soil.  We feel that this action, sponsored by the HSU College Republicans and the Veterans Club, is an appropriate and tactful way to observe the 7^th anniversary of the 2001 attacks, and be it finally;

9.)                       RESOLVED,     This resolution shall be sent to, but not limited to: CSU Chancellor Reed, all members of the Board of Trustees; HSU President, Rollin Richmond; Vice President of  Student Affairs, Steven Butler; Provost and Vice President of Academic Affairs, Robert Snyder; the Academic Senate; all university departments; all local and state media outlets; and all CSU Associated Students.
