Resolution in Opposition to Governor Schwarzenegger's 2008/2009 budget proposal

Subject:                       Resolution In Opposition to the Transfer of Assets between the Humboldt StateUniversity Center to the Humboldt State University Enterprises Foundation

 

1.)                        WHEREAS,    The Associated Students of Humboldt State University (HSU) have been entrusted to represent and fight in the best interests of our constituents, the over 7,500 students                         which make up our campus community; and

 

2.)                        WHEREAS,    It is in the mission of the Associated Students to educate students on those issues that impact them, and advocate for the student perspective to the ‘appropriate parties,’                        which include the university administrators and campus decision-making bodies; and

 

3.)                       WHEREAS,     Students pay $186 a year to fund the University Center (UC) for their dining services, bookstore, and other commercial and programming services; and

 

4.)                       WHEREAS,    The University Center Board of Directors is comprised of a student majority who is elected by the students, the main stakeholders of the University Center; and                              

5.)                       WHEREAS,     The University President has proposed a transfer of  students’ dining services, the bookstore, and CenterArts from the University Center over to the Enterprises                            Foundation, an auxiliary where no sufficient student vote is guaranteed; and,

 

6.)                       WHEREAS,     The students on the UC Board have and should continue to vote in the best interest of the University Center and its stakeholders, the students; therefore be it

 

7.)                       RESOLVED,     The Associated Students of Humboldt State University adamantly opposes any transfer of these commercial services to the Enterprise Foundation without written by-                   laws provided to the public stating half of the Enterprises Foundation Board will be comprised of voting student members elected from the student body during the Associated Students                           (AS) General Election held in April; and further

 

8.)                       RESOLVED,     The Associated Students of HSU requests University Center Board Members to vote in the best interest of its stakeholders and vote against the proposal that doesn’t                    allow a half student board; and be it finally

 

9.)                       RESOLVED,     This resolution shall be sent to, but not limited to: HSU President, Rollin Richmond; Vice President of Student Affairs, Steven Butler; Vice President of Academic                                       Affairs, Robert Snyder; Vice President of University Advancement, Robert Gunsulus; Vice President of Administrative Affairs, Carl Coffey; University Center Executive Director, Burt                       Nordstrom; All members of the University Center Board of Directors; the Academic Senate; and all campus and local media outlets.
