Resolution in Opposition to Governor Schwarzenegger's 2008/2009 budget proposal

SUBJECT:                 Resolution in Opposition to the Proposal for Proportional Representation in the California State Student Association

 

1.)                                WHEREAS,    The Associated Students of Humboldt State University (HSU) have been entrusted to represent and fight in the best interests of our constituents, the students which make up our campus community; and

 

2.)                                WHEREAS,    It is in the mission of the Associated Students to educate students on those issues that impact them, and advocate for the student perspective to the appropriate parties, which include the university administration, the local community, and the State of California; and

 

3.)                                WHEREAS,    The California State Student Association represents over 450,000 students of the California State University System and has a long standing history of representing our students on statewide issues; and                            

 

4.)                                WHEREAS,     The Associated Students of Humboldt State University has held a long standing relationship with the California State Student Association which has included, but is not limited to: the sending of representatives, serving as executive leadership, and participating in California State Student Association events; and   

 

5.)                                WHEREAS,    A proposal has been recommended that representation on the California State Student Association Board of Directors be proportional to each campuses’ student population; and,

 

6.)                                WHEREAS,   This proposal would devalue the voice Humboldt State Students have on statewide issues; and,

 

7.)                                WHEREAS,    It is the Associated Students of Humboldt State University’s charge to fight for Humboldt State student’s voice and representation; therefore be it,

 

8.)                                RESOLVED,   The Associated Students of Humboldt State University opposes the proposal for proportional representation; be it further

 

9.)                                RESOLVED,   The Associated Students of Humboldt State urges the California State Student Association oppose this proposal as well to protect the voices of all students regardless of campus population; be it finally

 

10.)                              RESOLVED,   This resolution shall be sent to, but not limited to: the California State Student Association, CSU Chancellor Reed, all members of the Board of Trustees; HSU President, Rollin Richmond; Vice President of Student Affairs, Steven Butler; Vice President of Academic Affairs, Robert Snyder; the Academic Senate; all local and state media outlets; and all CSU Associated Students.
