the CSSA Structure Proposal 1.) WHEREAS, The Associated Students of Humboldt State University (HSU) has been entrusted to represent and advocate for the best interests of our constituents, the approximately 7,500 students which make up our campus community; and, 2.) WHEREAS,
It is in the mission of the Associated Students to educate
students on those issues that impact them, and advocate for the student
perspective to the ‘appropriate parties, which include the university
administration, the local community, and the State of 3.) WHEREAS, The California State Student Association represents over 450,000 students of the California State University System and has a long standing history of representing our students on statewide issues; and, 4.) WHEREAS, The Associated Students of Humboldt State University has held a long standing relationship with the California State Student Association which has included, but not limited to: the sending of representatives, serving as executive leadership, and participating in California State Student Association events; and, 5.) WHEREAS, Many university Associated Students
organizations in the 6.) WHEREAS, As a result, the California State Student Association Board of Directors has passed, and put forward for ratification to the individual Associated Students organizations, a proposal to amend said structure; and, 7.) WHEREAS, Said proposal includes changes to the executive structure of the California State Student Association, dues structure, Executive Director performance evaluations, and proportional voting; and, 8.) WHEREAS, The Associated Students of Humboldt State University passed a resolution on December 15, 2008 which urged “the California State Student Association oppose the [proportional voting] proposal as well to protect the voices of all students regardless of campus population;” and, 9.) WHEREAS, The current harsh climate surrounding the California State University system with continuing budget cuts and system wide impaction, warrants a commitment to working with the statewide representation that the California State Student Association provided for Humboldt State University students; therefore be it, 10.) RESOLVED, that the Associated Students of Humboldt State University approve the proposal set forth by the California State Student Association at the December 2008 plenary meeting with the following qualifications; be it further, 11.) RESOLVED, That the Associated Students of Humboldt State University urge the California State Student Association to evaluate the outcomes of said proposal annually; and be it further: 12.) RESOLVED, The Associated Students of Humboldt State
University urge the California State Student Association to continue exploring
options, other than proportional representation, that fulfills concerns of full
student representation at California State Student Association board meetings;
and be it further, 13.) RESOLVED, The Associated Students of Humboldt State
University will closely monitor our continued membership with the California
State Student Association as a result of the passage of this proposal; and be
it finally, 14.) RESOLVED, This resolution shall be sent to, but not
limited to: the California State Student Association, CSU Chancellor Charles Reed,
all members of the Board of Trustees; HSU President, Rollin Richmond; Vice
