Humboldt State University Sponsored Programs Foundation (HSUFSPF) will accept proposals for HSUSPF Small Grant Awards during the summer until July 1, 2008. Applications will be reviewed by the Dean for Research and Graduate Studies and decision on funding will be made within a week of receipt of the proposal based on the criteria established below. It is the Foundation’s policy to make funds available for grants and awards to University faculty and staff. Proposals are solicited in the following category: Grant Development for Faculty and Staff. Preference will be given to those who did not receive support from the small grant competitions in the last 2 years. Priority will be given to those proposals that are supported by the Deans.
GRANT DEVELOPMENT FOR FACULTY AND STAFF:
Awards will be granted up to $6,000 each. The goal is to fund new projects that have potential to receive external funding. Priority will be given to those projects that will be able to recover the full federal negotiated indirect cost rate. Projects that have already received external funding are not eligible. Proposals will be reviewed and judged based on quality of the proposal and the potential for fostering future extramural funding activity. Approximately 2-3 awards are budgeted for this summer. Awards may be used for any justified purpose to develop a proposal or to enhance an existing proposal for resubmission including but not limited to: hiring a grant writer, facility upgrades, developing pilot data, hiring student assistants to complete preliminary work or a combination of these categories. If the proposal is a resubmission, a copy of the review comments should be included with the application. The proposal must identify the funding source and include a specific plan for gaining funding. Funds must be used by December 31, 2008. Faculty and staff from all disciplines are encouraged to apply.
Submit a two page proposal addressing the following prompts:
1. A statement of the project’s value and significance to the University.
2. A statement of objectives and scope of intended activity.
3. Funding source, the specific grant competition, and date of submission with a specific detailed plan for gaining funding.
4. Methodology and, when applicable, dates.
5. Detailed budget including a budget narrative of all expenses.
6. Project activity: In this section include aims, background information, protocols, expected results and qualifications related to the project. Also describe history of work and previous attempts to gain funding and other information related to the competitiveness of the proposal.
7. Overall project quality: Describe unique characteristics of the project.
Requestors should submit only one proposal to this competition. Include a disclosure statement about all past, current, and pending funding for the project. Proposals not following the guidelines will not be considered. You are strongly encouraged to discuss your proposal with Chris Hopper (cah3@humboldt.edu).
