Awards will be granted up to $6,000 each. The goal is to fund new research/projects that have potential to receive external funding. Projects that have already received external funding are not eligible. Proposals will be reviewed and judged based on quality of the proposal and the potential for fostering future extramural funding activity. Approximately 2-3 awards are budgeted for this category. New investigators and/or Project Directors (defined as tenure track professors who have not received tenure) are not eligible to apply for this competition.* The awards will be applied to Fall Semester 2008. Awards may be used for release time, hiring a grant writer, developing pilot data, hiring student assistants to complete preliminary work or a combination of these areas. The proposal must identify the funding source and include a specific plan for gaining funding. Funds must be used by December 31, 2008. Faculty and staff from all disciplines are encouraged to apply.

* The New Investigator Competition is held in Fall Semester.
