Humboldt State University Marching Lumberjacks!
The only remaining, real SCATTER band from a public university and the only
SCATTER-MARCHING BAND IN THE KNOWN UNIVERSE!
The Marching Lumberjacks (MLJs) take pride in being one of the only remaining student-organized and student-run organizations in college bands today. What we feel a college band should be.
We don’t do that marching in step stuff - at least not intentionally, we don’t do latin fanfares, lame marching band competitions, and we don’t waste our time making sure everyones feet are exactly 6 inches off the ground or any other junk like that.
We’ve got jugglers, dancers, kazoo players, KEG players as well as some very talented musicians.
In short - this AIN’T your typical college band and this sure as heck isn’t your high school band either. If you want to march, join the Army! This is college - it’s supposed to be fun!
From Bandon, Oregon in the north down to the Doo Dah Parade in Pasadena as well as Ft. Bragg and San Francisco, The band participates in many parades and festivals up and down the California/Oregon coast. We follow our championship Jacks athletics teams up and down the west coast and the banned participates in tons of local events right here in beautiful Humboldt County. And yeah, we do weddings too!
We’ve been on TV shows, in MOVIES (The Majestic with Jim Carrey) and have been pictured in many magazines and newspapers including the well respected National Geographic. (Yes THE National Geographic! ...July ’93 go look it up)
Simply put, WE’RE FAMOUS!!!! Woo-HOOOO!
We believe in always having fun, but take our entertaining seriously! Whether it’s the students and alumni of HSU, the wonderful families and kids that line the parade routes or the masses out in Movie and TV land - We may not be the most politically correct band you’ll ever see, but we love to put on a show and guarantee* make you smile.
Thinking of Joining? One unit of credit is awarded to you if you are enrolled in this class. We are also a club, which means you do not have to be enrolled in our class to join us. We accept almost anybody after a RIGOROUS audition process that includes such deep and insightful, fact-finding questions like “Are you breathing?” “Are you now or have you ever been a member of the communist party” “What does does Davis Do?”
