All Faculty and Staff

Humboldt State University

Dear Colleagues:

Humboldt definitely has a unique culture and the part that I like best is the way that people work together for the benefit of the community. Of course, we don’t all agree what is best for the community, but many of us are deeply involved in what we feel is best and that is wonderful. One of the ways that we help each other, especially those who have had some bad luck, is to contribute to United Way. It is my pleasure to help kick off the 2006 United California State Employees Charitable Campaign at Humboldt State University. We join together in association with both public and private institutions throughout Humboldt County who are being invited to participate in this important fund drive. In addition to this letter, you will be hearing from University Co-Chairs Professor John Stuart (Forestry and Watershed Management) and Cherry Ouellette (Career Information Specialist) who are encouraging your active participation again this year.

The United Way of Humboldt County, on behalf of the State Board of Control, manages this campaign. The United Way of Humboldt County represents fourteen local agencies, which provide a broad spectrum of services to our community, for our friends and neighbors, and in some instances, our own faculty, staff and students. How many of you have received training through the American Red Cross, or perhaps your child has attended a local camp program sponsored by the Girl Scouts or Boy Scouts. In addition to the local affiliated United Way agencies, this campaign supports many statewide and national organizations, which have been approached for participation by the State Board of Control. It is in recognition of these varied and valuable services that we as individuals are asked to consider participating in the United California State Employees Charitable Campaign.

If you choose to contribute, you may do so through our payroll deduction program, or you may make a donation by check. Many of you give generously in our community both through money as well as serving on the Boards of Directors. Please consider increasing your monthly contribution. I would like to establish a Presidential Level of giving at $750 per year. Join me in making a significant difference in our community. You may designate your gift to a specific charitable organization on your pledge form if you wish.

For me, it is less important how much you give but that you do give as you are able. Let’s make this a record year for HSU in terms of the numbers of us who give something to our community through United Way. Thank you!

Sincerely,

Rollin C. Richmond
