WASC Accreditation

To: Campus Community

From: President Rollin Richmond
Provost Richard Vrem

Earlier this semester members of the campus community were asked to share
their thoughts on the most important issues facing Humboldt State
University and to determine which of those issues should be addressed for
the upcoming Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC)
accreditation. The WASC proposal Steering Committee has compiled those
responses into a consolidated list of three broad themes with a total of
18 sub themes. Although all of these themes are important for HSU, we
will need to more tightly focus our attention for the WASC review so we
are asking each of you to provide a response to each sub theme by ranking
its importance on a five-point Likert scale. Please go to the following
web link:

http://www.humboldt.edu/~aavp/wasc_followup_survey.rtf

to either fill in or print the form. It may then be returned either by
email to the following address: wasc@humboldt.edu or via campus mail to
the Office of the Provost. We need to have all the responses submitted by
5 p.m. on Monday, May 2, 2005.

There are some HSU employees who do not have ready access to email and the
internet. In those cases, we request supervisors who work with such
employees to print out copies of the form and distribute them to the
appropriate individuals.

The WASC proposal Steering Committee will compile the results of the
survey and present them to the University Executive Committee. We plan to
send the final list of WASC Themes to the campus prior to
Commencement. We hope that you will find time in your busy schedules as
we approach the end of the semester to provide your input into this very
important WASC process.
