Vice President for Advancement Candidate – W. Stephen Jeffrey

Candidate Jeffrey shared information related to the Vice President for University Advancement position and answered questions.

President’s Report

President Richmond reported:

  • he plans to issue his decisions on the SEE (Strategic Enrollment Effort) recommendations in the near future.
  • he will be meeting with Chancellor Reed to discuss enrollments and the consequences of budget reductions at HSU.
  • a productive meeting of the Native American Advisory Council was held yesterday. The Council will meet more frequently and the membership will be expanded.
  • he and others recently met with a consultant regarding redundant broadband access, focusing on the “middle mile” connection.
  • he recently attended a worthwhile CSUPERB (CSU Program for Education and Research in Biotechnology) symposium, at which Professor Jacob Varkey was presented with the Andreoli Biotechnology Service Award.

Other Reports

Vice President Coffey reported:

  • that the construction of the Behavioral and Social Sciences building is progressing, with the maximum height now being apparent.

Saeed Mortazavi reported:

  • that Jennifer Eichstedt will be sharing information regarding the rigor survey
  • and Jeff Borgeld, Faculty Athletic Representative, will also be presenting at the January 24 Academic Senate meeting.

Ann Burroughs reported:

  • that additional equipment will be purchased, including servers, which will result in a significant improvement to campus e-mail service.
  • that they will attempt to address the Banner slowdowns which have been experienced this week.
  • that an ad hoc ITS advisory group has been established.

Burt Nordstrom reported:

  • a press conference is planned for February 3, 1:15 in the Library to announce a major gift to HSU.

Rick Vrem reported:

  • an academic programs assessment workshop presented by an outside expert is planned on January 27 (8:30-11:30 and 1:30-4:30); contact Diane Anderson if you are interested in attending.
  • a writing across the curriculum workshop is planned on February 10 (noon to 4:00) and February 11 (8:30-12:30), promoting writing in all disciplines.

Budget Update

Carol Terry provided a 2005-06 year-to-date budget update. She noted that user-friendly budget reports are being developed, which will be available in the near future. Once completed, she will provide a demonstration to the University Executive Committee. A discussion of the budget will be continued at the January 26 University Executive Committee meeting.
