President’s Report

President Richmond shared information from the January 23-24 CSU Board of Trustees’ meeting. Some of the topics included:

  • MOU between Cal State San Marcos and their local tribal community which promises university assistance in preparing reservation students academically and guaranteeing admission for those who meet CSU standards. President Richmond noted that he is working with Kevin Simmons and Adrienne Colegrove-Raymond in the planning of the Northern California Tribal Leaders Education Summit to be held in conjunction with the 2007 Education Encounter at HSU on March 2, 2007.

  • Letter from Chancellor Reed to faculty regarding CFA negotiations

  • Title 5 revisions: 1) Educational and Preventive Information Regarding Sexual Violence; 2) Update the Definition of “Hazing” in the Student Conduct Code to Conform to new Legislation
  • President Richmond also reported on his attendance at the January 18 Governor’s Broadband Task Force Committee meeting.

Other Reports

Provost Vrem reported:

  • that HSU has been notified that AASCU and their colleagues at the China Center for InternationalEducation Exchange (CCIEE) have selected HSU as one of the five new institutions toparticipate in the Sino-American 1+2+1 Dual Degree Program. Fifteen Chinese universities will be invited to partner with the five new American universities in this successfulstudent program. Members of the University Executive Committee noted the importance of support mechanisms being in place, both in the community and on campus; this will be discussed further at a future meeting.

Vice President Gunsalus reported:

  • that he recently submitted HSU’s three-year plan and expenditure report for University Advancement to the Chancellor’s office.

Vice President Butler reported:

  • a forum was held recently for students interested in joining a sorority or fraternity – new organizations are being formed based on culture and ethnicity
  • plans are being developed for a visit to HSU by AASCU representatives on March 1-2 (study of Latino graduation rates)
  • financial aid groups are visiting the local schools for recruitment purposes
  • a Career Expo and Volunteer Fair is being held on campus on Friday, February 9, 10:00-2:00 (West Gym – Forbes Complex).
  • Campus emergency drill is occurring on Friday, January 26.

Fall Enrollment Update

Mike Reilly, Associate Vice President, Enrollment Management, provided a Spring and Fall 2007 application/registration update. Continuation of the 15/30 and +1 campaigns will be important. Plans are being made to provide additional housing to incoming freshmen. Mike reported that freshmen applications from both Oregon and Hawaii have doubled (for Fall 2007). President Richmond noted that he will be attending Super Sunday, an outreach effort, in the Bay Area on Sunday, February 18.
