President’s Report
President Richmond reported:
- that Paula Allen (United Indian Health Services) will serve as the new Chair of the Native American Advisory Council. Patty will provide Andre Cramblit with the University Budget Committee meeting dates.
- the National Science Foundation recently awarded a $610,917.00 grant to HSU’s Computing Science Department for three years to implement the Coalition for American Indians in Computing (CAIC) project. Only 12 projects were funded among the 104 proposals submitted to NSF.
- Elizabeth (Beth) Ambos, CSU’s Interim Assistant Vice Chancellor for Research Initiatives and Partnerships, had a successful visit to HSU on January 30 and expressed her appreciation.
- HSU’s earthquake drill on January 26 was worthwhile and appreciation is extended to all who planned and participated in the event.
Other Reports
Provost Vrem reported:
- that a steering committee is being formed to coordinate the information provided by the two committees who have been working on the two WASC themes; a report will be forthcoming.
Denice Helwig reported:
- the CCRP (California Center for Rural Policy) recently completed its first research report relating to the recruitment and retention of rural area physicians. She noted that many students are involved in the CCRP.
Vice President Coffey reported:
- that the West Gym is scheduled for demolition in early 2008 which will impact Commencement 2008 planning.
- that the Campus Apartments acquisition will be completed before the end of the spring semester.
Vice President Butler reported:
- that the 2nd annual “Career Expo and Volunteer Fair” will be held on February 9 between 10:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m. in the West Gym.
- that Black Liberation Month is taking place during the month of April.
- that a group is researching e-mail technology options, with plans for vendor demonstrations on campus. A recommendation is anticipated this semester.
Vice President Gunsalus reported:
- that $200,000 has been inherited by HSU recently for scholarship purposes
- that mid-year reports have been completed through December 31 – there have been 2,242 alumni donors (compared to a three-year average of 1,960 for a full year); gifts have increased over a three-year average, as well.
- a search will be implemented for an Associate Vice President for Marketing and Communications (no new funds will be required).
Web Accessibility Policy – Draft
Anna reviewed the draft HSU Policy on Web Accessibility, noting that a policy is to be established by the end of March, 2007. Professor Mortazavi requested that this item be presented to the Academic Senate for approval. This topic will be discussed further at an upcoming University Executive Committee meeting.
