Other Reports:

Saeed Mortazavi reported:

  • that the Academic Senate will be discussing a resolution revising Appendix J (Faculty Personnel Policies and Procedures for Retention, Tenure, and Promotion) at its April 10 meeting.

Vice President Coffey reported:

  • that capital renewal funds won’t be available for library renovations as previously suggested (the Library Commons request for capital renewal funding will be HSU’s highest priority next year).

Provost Vrem reported:

  • that the Second Annual HSU Fulbright Day occurred on April 5 with activities scheduled.
  • that approximately 20 students from the Xi’an International Studies University in China are expected to attend HSU next Fall Semester as part of the 1+2+1 student dual degree program.

Vice President Gunsalus reported:

  • that additional members are being invited to join the Advancement Foundation Board of Directors.
  • that efforts have been made to coordinate and improve donor communications (both in appearance and content), with a new department appeal program being implemented. New brochures for Financial Aid and Housing are nearing completion.

Carol Terry reported:

  • that Tammy Curtis has been appointed to serve as Director of Human Resources.
  • that the new ProCard purchasing system is proving to be advantageous (with 1350 ProCard purchases being processed over the last seven months).
  • that the contracts office should be notified when HSU is involved in a university initiative which will ultimately involve agreements and/or funding commitments.

Anna Kircher reported:

  • that her area is appreciative of the financial assistance provided by Student Affairs representatives who helped replace the aging computer which held the Banner data base; we will now be able to avoid a repeat of the systems problems encountered during HOP sessions last summer. Resources contributed from Student Affairs and CNRS also allowed us to upgrade the Moodle servers, which will both permit HOOP (Humboldt On-Line Orientation Program) to absorb higher participation rates as well as better serving distance learning needs.
  • that HSU is included in Phase II of the CSU’s wireless initiative (2 years from now).

Vice President Butler reported:

  • that HSU representatives attended the CSU Housing Proposal Review Committee meeting in March, where HSU’s New and Replacement Housing Proposal was discussed. The proposal, which would create new available student housing (approximately 2010), was recommended for further processing.
  • that Spring Preview is occurring on April 13-14 http://www.humboldt.edu/admissions/springpreview/. HSU will be providing transportation to prospective students from distant California locations.
  • that HSU alum, Lyle Laverty, has been nominated by President Bush to serve as Assistant Secretary of the Interior for Fish and Wildlife and Parks.
  • that the recent Celebrity Dinner and Sports Auction generated record-level donations (more than $215,000 in funding for HSU student-athlete scholarships).
  • that he participated as a member of the Capacity and Preparatory Review Team visiting CSU San Marcos recently, part of their WASC accreditation process.
