President’s Report

President Richmond reported:

  • that he, in conjunction with Chair Larson of the Academic Senate, sent letters to individuals inviting them to serve on the Budget Review Task Force. He will be sending similar appointment letters to persons identified to serve on the Humboldt Energy Independence Fund committee.
  • Joe Jen, Senior Advisor to the President on Agricultural and Government Affairs, Cal Poly Pomona, has been invited to visit HSU on October 5. A schedule of meetings, to include a press conference, will be arranged.

Other Reports

Vice President Gunsalus reported:

  • that the marketing/communications team has been working with various departments in upgrading the presentation of their material, incorporating some of the Noel Levitz recommendations. He distributed three pamphlets.

Vice President Coffey reported:

  • information has been received regarding MPP/Confidential employee salary increases. Carol Terry is preparing information to be used by the units in processing the increases.
  • the area of Financial Services is busy with the GAAP audit.
  • that an exit conference for the athletics audit is anticipated; Vice President Butler noted that he would like to participate.
  • CMS implementation continues to be a high priority.
  • a consultant will be investigating a possible seismic fault at the new housing site. When resolved, the building design will take place.

Vice President Butler reported:

  • that a press conference took place today regarding the DUI Education Initiative, a grant-funded program being coordinated by University Police, Arcata Police and the California Highway Patrol.
  • the upcoming Leadership Conference call for presentations may be viewed on the web http://news.humboldt.edu/stories/pledge_leadership.html
  • Homecoming is planned for October 11-13, including a Hall of Fame dinner on October 12.

Membership – University Executive Committee

Following discussion, it was agreed that President Richmond would invite the three college deans to attend the University Executive Committee meetings. After six months, this practice will be reviewed.

Annual Report

Following discussion, it was decided that Denice Helwig would prepare a more specific outline template for submitting annual report information and this item would be placed on a University Executive Committee agenda in late October or early November.

Media Guidelines

Paul Mann reviewed the media guidelines, which were approved.

Information Security Audit Prep

John McBrearty reviewed information about information security audit preparation, including a recommended action plan. President Richmond noted that it would be beneficial to distribute guidelines for HSU employees who travel with their laptop computer.

Emergency Drill – Date/time

It was agreed that the emergency drill would take place on Thursday, September 27, 10:45 AM. This will not include an evacuation. It will be announced to campus beforehand and the campus community will be encouraged to check the various information sources (HSU web site, information phone number, cell phone notification, etc.) to test the efficiency of our emergency notification process.
