CASAE is affiliated with the Practicing Sociology Master’s Program. It is designed to train Practice Track graduate student in program evaluation & other skills as well as to respond to community requests for questionnaire design, survey construction and data analysis.

- Institute for Cartographic Design

Affiliated with the Department of Geography and its Kosmos Lab for teaching cartography, the Institute for Cartographic Design is intended to provide cartography students with a transition from theoretical to applied map design before graduation and to provide a centralized cartographic design service on campus specializing in cartographic and information design in all formats from paper to web to animation.
- Institute for Emerging Technologies in Learning

Affiliated with the Department of Computing Science, the Institute studies and implements the use of multimedia and distance learning technologies within new learning environments, including university curricula, extended and distance education, continuing education for professionals and public school settings. Areas of implementation also include tele-medicine and health education.
- Institute for Forest Canopy Research

The Institute for Forest Canopy Research is dedicated to research in forest canopy ecosystems, particularly in the Pacific Northwestern United States in old growth redwood forests, Douglas fir forests, montance pine and fir forests, and temperate coniferous rainforests ranging from Northern California to British Columbia. The structure and disturbance responses of insect communities in these complex forest habitats are of particulular interest.
- Institute for Industrial Technology

The IIT, a student-started and student-run enterprise affiliated with the Industrial Technology Department, produces several items such as art easels, children’s art-easels, recycling bins, and other custom work. The IIT’s primary goal is to provide students with the opportunity to apply educational theories and concepts to a business enterprise.
- Institute for River Ecosystems

The purpose of IRE is to foster preservaton of running water ecosystems and their watersheds through collaborative research, graduate education, and the dissemination and synthesis of information. Specifically, collaborative interactions are fostered through the forum of the Watershed Ecology Team (WET), which involves HSU faculty and graduate students, scientsts from federal and state agencies, and members of regional consulting firms, natural resource companies and Tribes.

The ISA is dedicated to the expansion of spatial analysis methodologies across disciplines and the full spectrum of real world issues. We work closely with the public and private sector entities to achieve this goal.

ISADR is a conflict resolution training, education and research institute that offers professional mediation training through a certificate program in Extended Education. Thoroughout the year ISADR staff and faculty perform additional research, curriculum design, program suppot and community outreach services.

- Northern California Institute of Marine Sciences

NCIMS reflects the collaboration of the departments of Biology, Fisheries Biology and Oceanography. Its purpose is to facilitate interdisciplinary projects amoung faculty in the marine sciences and to foster the pursuit and dissemination of knowledge of marine systems with a focus on coastal northern California. It encourages effective collaboration amoung HSU faculty and students, professional marine scientists, agencies and organizations concerned with the investigation, management and/or conservation of the marine environment.

One of the foremost fuel cell development laboratories, SERC’s fuel cell systems have proven to be among the most reliable and efficient in the world.
HSU is equipped with a 8,500-square foot ceramics facility, which boasts a kiln room, throwing and hand building areas, a glaze room, a spray booth, and an outdoor kiln area for raku firings.
