Humboldt State University is one of the California State University campuses offering a degree in Industrial Technology. The degree is built to serve the needs of the following students: 1) those who wish to pursue an career in engineering or industry management; 2) those who wish to start a business; 3) those desiring a technical degree leading to a single subject credential for teaching in the public schools; 4) those wish to minor in the subject; or 5) those who wish to take a single class.
Career opportunities are extensive and varied, including engineering, teaching, management, or entrepreneurship. It is an area for a person who enjoys working with ideas, people, processes, machines, and products. In addition, the growth of research and development in applied areas such as construction, manufacturing, biotechnology, medical technology, energy, and electronics should increase the demand for Applied Technology graduates.
A major factor influencing success is preparation. Students gain additional educational and technical background by developing greater awareness of technological advances in applied contexts. Specialty options within the major allow students interested in a specific area to investigate, develop skills, and obtain experiences to be better prepared for work. In general, the Applied Technology student has advantages in the job market due to a combination of both theoretical and practical knowledge.
