The IELI curriculum provides an excellent intensive learning environment for developing English language skills and the community offers a friendly setting for practicing and applying what you have learned.

On the first day of school, you will participate in a variety of placement activities to determine which level is appropriate for you in each of the skill areas: listening, speaking, reading, grammar and pronunciation. The full-time ESL course load is 21 hours per week. The Summer Intersession ESL course load is 3 hours per week with extra-curricular activities. At the end of each eight week session or Summer Intersession, you will take a proficiency test to measure your progress.

Small classes (8 to 12 students) insure individual attention to your learning needs. IELI teachers are trained professionals with years of experience helping students aquire the English skills they need to achieve their dreams.

8 week sessions (except the Summer Intersession) allow you to begin study 5 times per year. You can progress to the next level quickly as you ability increases. Our calendar for the (partial) year 2008 is as follows:

Summer Intersession 2008
July 21 to August 15 - $750 for this session

Fall Term 2008
Session 1: August 25 to October 16 - $1760 for this session
Session 2: October 20 to December 18 - $1760 for this session

Summer Term 2008
Session 1: May 19 to July 10 - $1680 for this session

Students should arrive at least three or four days before the session begins in order to rest, get settled, and attend orientation.

We believe Humboldt State University/IELI is a school which you should strongly consider when choosing a language program or university. We look forward to hearing from you.
