Cisco Catalyst 2950![]() The Cisco 2950 is Cisco's entry level corporate Ethernet switch. It runs the full IOS as opposed to the Cat(alyst) OS featured on older switches. The ITL lab has 1 24 port model and three 12 port models. The 2950 is one of the most common switches in the networking industry and is used extensively in HSU's own network. Cisco sells over a dozen different models of 2950s, from 8 port models to 48 ports with 2 GBIC ports for 1000Base-SX/LX network uplinks. Specs
ITL Details A port in a 2950 will not immediately activate. With the switch lights in the Status mode a connected port will first go orange. Before the device can communicate the port must become green. This is due to spanning tree keeping ports in shutdown when a device is first plugged in. This causes problems with certain devices such as boot time DHCP/BOOTP. You can avoid this by making the switch ports access ports from within the IOS and enable portfast on those ports.
