Lab Layout

print PDF
The ITL Lab consists of 5 telco style 2 post racks (labelled Rack 1-5) connected by overhead cable trays. Each rack has a RJ-45 patch panel and a fiber optic patch panel. All racks have both Category 6 UTP and Multimode Fiber connections to all other racks. Racks 5 acts as a centralized rack with Cat 6 and fiber connections to all racks as well as all lab workstations. Workstations can connect to racks 1-4 by first connecting to rack 5 and then connecting from rack 5 to racks 1-4.

Reading the Patch Panels:
Each patch panel includes several patch panels. Jacks to connect to other patch panels are labelled with the Rack number they go to. The individual jacks are labelled to identify which rack they come from, which rack they go to, and what jack number they are. For example 4-1-2: Comes from rack 4, goes to rack 1, is jack 2. 4-1-2 on rack 4 connects to 1-4-2 on rack 1.
