Blocking Email
Block Sender is a program on axe that allows you to block unwanted email from an individual person or host. Follow the instructions below to block email.
- Login to your axe account.
- Type block_sender at the system prompt (See note below regarding forwarded email).
- To block an HSU email account, enter the user's email address.
Example: Enter sender/host to be blocked: jxd8
Example: Enter sender/host to be blocked: johnxdoe@hotmail.com - To block all email from any particular host, enter the host name.
Example: Enter sender/host to be blocked: hotmail.com - Block Sender will ask for confirmation of the address or host, and display a list of all the addresses and hosts you have set up to be blocked.
NOTE: Block Sender can detect that your account has been set up to be forwarded to another address. If you choose to continue with blocking an address from this account, your forwarding instructions will be disabled.
If you are forwarding email from one campus account to another, log into the destination account and set up Block Sender from there.
If you are forwarding email from axe to a non-HSU address, you can set up your mail client (Eudora, Mac Mail, MS Outlook) to block or filter messages, or check with the administrators of that host regarding filtering email.
Unblocking Email
Unblock Sender will allow you to remove filters set up by Block Sender. Type unblock_sender at the axe prompt. Unblock Sender will show a list of all addresses and hosts you have set up to be blocked. It will then ask you which filter you wish to remove. You must type in the answer exactly as it appears in the list.
Unblock Sender will then ask to confirm that you want to discontinue blocking email from that address or host. It will then show a list of all the addresses and hosts you still have set up to be blocked.
