Preferred Email Address
Students: Your Humboldt State University email account is an official form of communication between you and the university. You are responsible for checking your HSU email account for official communications. Although you may elect to redirect messages sent to your official HSU email address to another address, you do so at your own risk. Having an email lost as a result of re-direction does not absolve you from responsibilities associated with communication sent to your official university email address. The university is not responsible for the handling of email by outside vendors or unofficial servers.
You are able to choose a preferred email address where all of your HSU email correspondence will be sent (including billing, class list info, official correspondence, Moodle, course information, etc). By default, this is your HSU address (example:abc123@humboldt.edu). We recommend that you use your HSU email address; however, your preferred email address can be any valid email account you choose including a non-HSU address such as a yahoo.com account. It must be a valid address that you have activated and have access to. See instructions below.
Email & Web Alias
You can choose a more memorable email address by selecting an alias or nickname. For students, this alias will be used as your "from" address in Zimbra. It will also be part of your web site address if you choose to create one. For more information, read about Public vs. Private Identities.
Campus Email Lists Options
ITS offers all individuals at HSU the option to choose which automatically distributed university email messages they wish to receive. You will be able to opt out of receiving University Notices and Humboldt State News Online. See instructions below.
Select Your Preferred Email Address
- Log on to Account Center (formerly known as WebReg).
- Choose the Account Tools link.
- Choose the E-mail Settings link.
- Choose the Set/Update Preferred E-mail Address link.
- Make sure your Preferred Address is set to a valid account that you have access to,
as all mail addressed to your HSU email address will be forwarded to this preferred address.
Note: Your Preferred Address can be any account you choose including a non-HSU account such as a yahoo.com account. The university is not responsible for the handling of email by outside vendors or unofficial servers. - When finished, select the Exit link in the upper right corner of the page and then close the browser to ensure security.
Select Your Account Alias
- Log on to Account Center (formerly known as WebReg).
- Choose the Account Tools link.
- Choose the E-mail Settings link.
- Choose the Select Web/E-mail Alias link.
- Choose from the list of available aliases and click Select Alias.
- When finished, select the Exit link in the upper right corner of the page and then close the browser to ensure security.
Select Your Campus Email List Options
- Log on to Account Center (formerly known as WebReg).
- Choose the Account Tools link.
- Choose the E-mail Settings link.
- Choose the E-mail Subscription Option link.
- Select the desired IN/OUT option for each list and choose the Save Changes button.
- When finished, select the Exit link in the upper right corner of the page and then close the browser to ensure security.
